Transaction Deferral

Use this page to set the deferral accounts and the billing information for the billing schedule line. You can edit this page only for deferral items.

Specify Deferral Accounts

Set the deferral accounts and the billing information for the billing schedule line:

  1. In the list of all billing schedules, select the Schedule number of the billing schedule.
  2. In the Billing Schedule Lines section, select a line and select Advanced deferrals.
  3. To make the item a deferral item, set Deferral to Yes.
  4. In the Accounts section, where needed, specify the deferral and recognition accounts for revenue, discount, and consumption.
  5. In the Schedule section, select the Schedule type and as needed specify any deferral information.
  6. If needed to review the deferral item, select Preview.
  7. Select OK.

Fields

This page contains the following fields:

Deferred

Select whether the line item is a deferral: 

  • Yes: The line item is a deferral.
  • No: The line item is not a deferral.
Accounts
Revenue deferral account
Account number Displays the account for deferred revenue amounts. Read-only.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Revenue recognition account
Account number Select the account number you want to use to recognize the deferred revenue amount.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Revenue short-term account
Account number Select the account number you want to use for the short-term deferred revenue amount.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Discount deferral account
Account number Displays the account for discount amounts. Read-only.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Discount short-term account
Account number Select the account number you want to use for the short-term deferred discount amount.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Discount recognition account
Account number Select the account number you want to use to recognize the discount amount.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Consumption deferral account
Account number Displays the deferral account for consumption deferral amounts. Read-only.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Consumption short-term account
Account number Select the account number you want to use for the short-term deferred consumption amount.
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Consumption recognition account
Account number Displays the account number used for recognizing the deferred consumption amount. Read-only
Account name Displays the account name. Read-only
Schedule
Schedule type

Select the schedule type: Straight line (default) or Event based.

The options that appear on this page are based on the schedule type.

Consolidate prior periods

Select whether to consolidate schedule lines for prior periods: 

  • Yes: Consolidates the schedule lines for prior periods.
  • No: Does not consolidate schedule lines for prior periods.
Equal per period

Specify whether the number of days in a period are equal or different based on the period:

  • Yes: Each period has the same number of days.
  • No: The number of days within a period are not equal.

When the periods do not have an equal number of days, the number of days in a period is considered when the amount in each period for a schedule is calculated.

Schedule from template

Select whether the deferral schedule is created based on a template or the start and end dates of the billing schedule.

  • Yes: Creates the straight-line deferral schedule is based on a template.
  • No: Creates the straight line schedule is created based on the start and end dates of the billing schedule, where the billing date is the deferral start date and the billing end date is the deferral end date. The deferral amount is divided among the billing periods based on the billing frequency selected.
Template

Select the deferral template. The template values are from the Advanced Revenue & Expense Deferrals setup.

Deferral start date

Specify the start date of the deferral line. The transaction date is the default value.

End date

Displays the end date of the deferral line.

This date is automatically calculated based on the deferral template. If no template is selected, you must manually enter the date.

Allocation Type

Select how the amount is entered in the lines: 

  • Variable amounts: A specific allocation amount for each line is entered.
  • Equal amounts: The amount is allocated equally for each line.
  • Percentage: A amount is allocated based on the percentage value entered for each line.
  • Percentage of completion : A cumulative completion value for each line is entered.
  • Variable quantity:  A specific allocation quantity for each line is entered.
Expiration account

Select the account number you want to use for the expiration amount.

Event Based Lines
Description Displays the description for the item.
Deferral End Date

Displays the end date of the deferral line.

Expiration Date

Displays the expiration date for the deferral line.

Quantity

Displays a zero (0) value, and cannot be edited because the quantity is based on the View Billing Detail. Available when Variable quantity allocation type.

To be able to edit the quantity for the deferral schedule, use the Modify Schedule page.

Allocation Percent Displays the allocation percentage.
Amount

Displays the amount for the line.

Recognize on post

Select to automatically recognize the line when the sales order is posted. The transaction date is used if the End date is empty.

Recognition account Displays the recognition account number.
Completion percentage

Displays the cumulative percent that has been completed.

Available when Allocation type is Percentage of completion.

Completion amount

Displays the cumulative amount that has been completed.

Available when Allocation type is Percentage of completion.

Buttons

This page contains the following buttons: 

Button Description
OK Save Saves the record and any changes to the page.
Default Resets all boxes to their default values. Any changes you made are lost.
Preview Opens a page, where you can view a preview of the deferral.
