Escalation and Discount

The Escalation and Discount page allows users to update the escalation and discount rates of a billing schedule.

Align with Renewal Date

Added at the Schedule Line

  • When Align with renewal date is set to No, the functionality behaves as it did previously — no changes apply.

  • When Align with is set to Next renewal and a new record is added to the escalation and discount grid:

    • The start date is automatically set based on the start date of the next renewal period (using the same rules as the Mass Escalation and Discount page).

    • Although the start date is auto-filled, this can be manually overridden as needed.

    • Escalations and discounts are then applied from this defined start date.

  • When Align with is set to Last renewal and a new record is added:

    • The start date of the last renewal period is used as the escalation/discount start date.

  • Note: The start date is only auto-populated when both Align with renewal date = Yes and Schedule Line “Auto Renew = Yes.

Added at the Schedule Header

Adding an escalation or discount at the schedule header doesn’t change the behavior. However, when a record is added from the schedule header, it’s also copied to the schedule line. While copying the header record to the schedule lines, the same rules for setting the “Escalation and discount start date” automatically according to the “Align with renewal date” and “Align with” fields on the schedule header will be applied.

Update Empty End Date When Appending

Added at the Schedule Line

When adding an escalation or discount on the billing schedule line manually, the “Update empty end date when appending” settings used on the ASM parameter window will be followed, however, it can be changed as needed.

Example 1

  • Update empty end date when appending = Yes

  • Update empty end date when appending (Parameter window setting) = Yes

  • End date of existing escalation = Never

Result:

Upon creating a new escalation line, the end date of the previous escalation will be updated to 12/31/2024.

Example 2

  • Update empty end date when appending = No

  • Update empty end date when appending (Parameter window setting) = No

  • End date of existing escalation = Never

Result:

Upon creating a new escalation line, the end date of the previous escalation will not be updated and remain the same (Never).

Added at the Schedule Header

The Update empty end date when appending will only be enabled if the Append escalation and discount lines is set to Yes.

If Append escalation and discount lines is changed to No, Update empty end date when appending will be automatically set to No and will be disabled. When it is changed back to Yes, the latter will be defaulted to what is set in ASM parameter window.

Once a new line is added and the prior escalation/discount end date is empty (Never), it will be updated to one day prior to the new start date.

Append Escalation and Discount Lines

When enabled, the Append Escalation and Discount Option allows users to append or replace the unit price when the escalation/discount start date is the same. Additionally, the existing escalation on the billing lines will not be cleared and the new escalation/discount line will be added. Changes to escalations/discounts will be tracked. This option is only visible if it is enabled in the ASM parameter window.
