Billing Class

Use this page to set up and edit billing classes. Billing classes provide flexibility when creating sales orders and invoices for billing schedules that use different billing cycles.

Calculate Projected Invoice Date

The following example demonstrates how the projected invoice date is calculated based on the different calculation options selected. A billing schedule has the following billing periods: 

Billing period Start date End date
Period 1 February 05, 2021 May 31, 2021
Period 2 June 01, 2021 August 31, 2021
Period 3 September 01, 2021 November 30, 2021

If the calculated projected invoice date is not a valid date, the projected invoice date is the last day of the calculated month.

From Billing Start Date

When Calculate from is Billing start date, the projected invoice dates for Period 1 with no other values specified is as follows. For descriptions of each calculation method, see the Fields section.

Create a Billing Class

To create a billing class , follow these steps: 

  1. Specify a unique Billing class name and Description.
  2. To have the invoice for the first billing period created immediately after the billing schedule is created and active, set Invoice first period immediately to Yes.
  3. In Calculate from, select whether to use the start or end date of a billing period from which to calculate the Projected invoice date.
  4. Select the Calculation method to use.
  5. If needed, specify the Prior days or Prior months and the After days or After months and the Days. The field boxes available depend on the calculation method selected. Different combinations of prior and after days and months can be used as follows.
    • Prior days only
    • Prior months only
    • After days only
    • After months only
    • Prior days and After months
    • Prior months and After days
  6. Select Save.

Billing classes that are used by billing schedules cannot be deleted.

Fields

The following field boxes are available: 

Field Description
Billing class name Specify a unique name for the billing class.
Description Specify a description for the billing class.
Invoice first period immediately

Indicates whether the invoice for the first billing period can be created immediately after billing schedule is created and active.

  • Yes: The invoice for the first billing period is immediately available on the Invoice Creator regardless of the billing cycle settings of the selected billing class. All other invoices for subsequent billing periods become available on the Invoice Creator created based on the billing cycle settings of the selected billing class.
  • No:  The invoice for the first billing period is available on the Invoice Creator based on the billing cycle settings of the selected billing class.
Projected invoice date  
Calculate from

Select whether to use the start or end date of a billing period from which to calculate the projected invoice date.

  • Billing start date (default)
  • Billing end date
Calculation method

Select the method by which to calculate the projected invoice date. When calculating the invoice creating date, the Calculate from value is considered. The prior and after days/months and the days option become available based on the calculation method selected. For examples, see Billing Class.

  • None: No calculation method is used to determine the projected invoice date. The projected invoice date is not on any specific date. Default option.
  • Beginning of month: Uses the first day of the month of the billing start or end date to determine the projected invoice date.
  • End of month: Uses the last day of the month of the billing start or end date to determine the projected invoice date.
  • Beginning of period: Uses the first date of the billing period to determine the projected invoice date. Available when Calculate from is Billing start date.
  • End of period: Uses the last date of the billing period to determine the projected invoice date. Available when Calculate from is Billing end date.
  • Date: Uses a certain day of the month of the billing start or end date to determine the projected invoice date. When this option is selected, the Days value is required.
  • Beginning of header period: Coming soon.
  • End of header period: Coming soon.
  • Beginning of header period delayed: Coming soon.
  • End of header period delayed: Coming soon.
Prior days

Specify the number (0 to 999) of days prior to set the projected invoice date. An empty value is considered zero (0).

Only one of Prior days or After days can have a value.
Prior months Specify the number (0 to 999) of months prior to set the projected invoice date. An empty value is considered zero (0). Only one of Prior months or After months can have a value.
After days Specify the number (0 to 999) of days after to set the projected invoice date. An empty value is considered zero (0). Only one of Prior days or After days can have a value.
After months Specify the number (0 to 999) of months after to set the projected invoice date. An empty value is considered zero (0). Only one of Prior months or After months can have a value.
Days

Specify the day of the month (1 to 31) for the projected invoice date.
