HMM Handheld Portal
With Healthcare Materials Management, you also have access to HMM through handheld devices. You can use core features of HMM with the HMM Handheld Portal.
When using the HMM Handheld Portal, you may see it referred to as:
- Healthcare Materials Management Handheld Portal or,
- Materials Management
Portal Installation
To install Healthcare Materials Management onto a handheld device, make sure that you have installed and registered Healthcare Materials Management in your Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment.
To be able to use Materials Management, the handheld device you use must have the following:
- A network connection with access to the web server
- An HTML5 compatible web browser
- The ability to scan directly into text, which updates fields in the browser
Notes:
- Requirements for the handheld device are not described in this guide.
This guide provides installation and usage information specific to Healthcare Materials Management only. - If the handheld device used is a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, the built-in camera is usually not sufficient for scanning purposes.
As a best practice, get a separate scanner that is compatible with your mobile device.

Portal Setup
You can use handheld portals which are either connected or not connected to the internet. When you use offline portals, any transactions that you create will be saved on the handheld device. When you connect the handheld device to the internet all of the saved transactions will be uploaded to Business Central. If Auto Process Portal Requests is turned on in your HMM Setup in Business Central, then any transactions will be processed immediately after they are uploaded to Business Central.
Only users who are registered as portal users in Business Central can use the HMM handheld portal.

When your portal users are setup, they can use the following modules with a handheld device:
- Issuing
- Use this module to create issue transactions for inventory items.
- Item References
- Use this module to add item references for your items.
- Receiving
- Use this module to receive items from purchase orders.
- Requisition Inventory
- Use this module to run par counts at your locations.
- Supply Requisition Picking
- Use this module to update supply requisitions as they are fulfilled.
- Stock Count
- Use this module to update your physical inventory counts.
- HMM Process Supply Transfer/Return
- Use this module to transfer items between locations.
