Manufacturing Journals
Use the manufacturing journal pages to post transactions directly to adjust inventory in connection with consumption, capacity, and output without using documents.
For more information on the manufacturing journals, see the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central documentation.
Posting Entity
The following table shows the posting entity used for the General Ledger entries when journal entries for the Manufacturing functionality are posted and when a production order status changes from Released to Completed.

Finished items |
The posting entity is based on the Inventory Posting option on the Multi-Entity Management Setup.
|
Material variance/Capacity variance | The posting entity is from the header of the production order. |

Consumption
Keep in mind the following information when working with the Consumption Journal and Recurring Consumption Journal:
- Component items that are part of the corresponding bill of materials (BOMs) are not restricted by items security. Journals are posted regardless of the entity to which the item belongs.
- Component items that are not part of the corresponding bill of materials are restricted by item security. Journals are posted only for items that belong to the entities to which you have access.
- General Ledger entries created for the consumption and recurring consumption journals are assigned the entity of the item or location (based on the setting of the Inventory Posting option on the Multi-Entity Management Setup).
Capacity
Keep in mind the following information when working with the Capacity Journal and Recurring Capacity Journal:
- Only work centers and machine centers that are attached to entities to which you have access can be selected for a line.
- For the Recurring Capacity Journal, only production order numbers that are attached to entities to which you have access can be added to the lines. However, work centers and machine centers that are attached to these production order numbers are not restricted by work center security. Journals are posted regardless of the entity to which the item belongs.
- General Ledger entries created for the capacity and recurring capacity journals are assigned the entity of the work center or machine center.
Output
Keep in mind the following information when working with the Output Journal and Recurring Output Journal:
- Only production order numbers that are attached to entities to which you have access can be selected for a line.
- Work centers or machine centers that belong to routings for a production order item are not restricted by work center security. Journals are posted regardless of the entity to which the work center or machine center belongs.
- General Ledger entries created for the output and recurring output journals are assigned the entity of the work center or machine center.
