MEM Assisted Setup
The Multi-Entity Management assisted setup helps you set up basic functionality to use Multi-Entity Management. For more advanced set up, use the various Setup pages for Multi-Entity Management.
Note: You might require permission to access the setup pages and perform setup tasks. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
Use Assisted Setup
To use the assisted setup, follow these steps:
- Select , and type Assisted Setup.
- In the Assisted Setup list, select Set up Multi-Entity Management.
The initial status is not completed, and the Completed check box is cleared. - On the welcome page, select Next.
- On the Multi-Entity Management Setup page, select the global dimension that you want to use to identity the entity as the Entity Dimension, and select Next.
- On the User Security Setup page, select whether you want the user who is currently logged on to have Access to All Entities, and select Next.
- On the Intercompany Setup page:
- Select whether to Disable Intercompany Distributions.
- Select whether to Stop Posting w/o Intercompany.
- On the MEM Sample Data page, select whether you install the MEM sample data on top of the default Business Central data. If you install the MEM Sample Data see MEM Sample Data for more information.
- Select Finish.
The settings from the assisted setup are saved to the Multi-Entity Management Setup window.
Back on the Assisted Setup list, the status is updated to completed and the Completed check box is selected.
Note: As a best practice, the first user added must have access to all entities so they can perform all the MEM administrative tasks. After the setup is completed, at least one user should have access to all entities so they can monitor the status of master data and outstanding transactions
After you complete the assisted setup, you can open the various Setup pages to set up MEM for use.
Fields
This page contains the following fields:
Field | Description |
Multi-Entity Management Setup page
On the initial setup, the labels for the fields use the word Entity. When you use the assisted setup later, the labels will change to the terminology you used for global entity that is selected as the Entity Dimension.
Entity Dimension |
Select the entity dimension:
The global entities should already have been setup on the Dimensions page. For more information, see the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central documentation. |
Entity Label |
Displays the label to replace the field label Entity Code in many MEM pages and reports. This value is updated when you select the Entity Dimension. Read-only. To change the entity label, you must change the global dimension on the Dimensions page. Note: The word "entity" is used throughout the documentation for all field labels and references for the global dimension. Because every organization is unique, Binary Stream is not able to predict the language that your organization uses for the word "entity". |
User Security Setup | |
Access to All Entities |
On the initial setup, this option is selected, which gives the user who is currently logged on access to all entities. The initial user, which is usually a system administrator, must be able to access all entities to set up MEM. On subsequent uses of the assisted setup, the option is set to the last saved setting. |
Intercompany Setup | |
On the initial setup, the options are not selected. On subsequent uses of the assisted setup, the options are saved based on the settings on the Multi-Entity Management Setup page.
Disable Intercompany Distribution |
Select whether to turn off the intercompany functionality.
|
Stop Posting w/o Intercompany |
Select to prevent transactions from posting when the Due To and Due From accounts have not been set up. When this option is cleared, the transactions are posted without the Due To and Due From accounts. |
MEM Sample Data | |
In the assisted setup you have the option to install MEM sample data which is installed on top of the default Business Central sample data. By default, MEM sample data is installed with the Global Dimension 1 Code as a Global Dimension Entity. The sample data uses descriptive intercompany accounts marked as false. To learn more about MEM sample data, see Install Sample Data. |
