MEM Posting Periods by Entity
Use this dialog to specify a date range for each entity in which users can post transactions with the specified entity to the General Ledger. The settings on this dialog override the allow posting settings on the main General Ledger Setup page.
Administrative users who can access this page can see all records regardless of the entity, but can only set up the posting periods for the entities to which they have access.
Specify Posting Periods for an Entity
To specify the posting period for an entity, follow these steps:
- Open the General Ledger Setup page, and follow the steps in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central documentation for setting up the General Ledger.
- Select Posting > Posting Periods by Entity.
- On the MEM Posting Periods by Entity dialog, do the following:
- Select the Entity Code.
- Specify the date range for which transactions that belong to the entity are allowed to be posted to the General Ledger.

The functionality for the MEM Posting Periods by Entity and MEM Posting Periods by User-Entity dialogs work the same way as the User Setup page. |
In Multi-Entity Management
When allowable posting dates are setup in Multi-Entity Management, the priority of the dates specified is considered in the following order:
Note: For transactions that have multiple entities, a validation is performed on the each of the different entities that would be posted to the General Ledger. For the transaction to be posted, all validations must pass. For example, a purchase order has header entity 000, and two lines with entity 100 and 200. The transaction is to be posted on January 15, 2020 by UserA. The following checks are performed:
- Are transactions for entity 000 allowed to be posted to the General Ledger by UserA on the specified date?
- Are transactions for entity 100 allowed to be posted to the General Ledger by UserA on the specified date?
- Are transactions for entity 200 allowed to be posted to the General Ledger by UserA on the specified date?
If any one of the checks fails, the transaction is not posted, and a message indicating the error appears.
Local Functionality
Currently, the posting by entity functionality is not available for the Belgium region where allowable posting periods can be specified by templates. If neither of the posting by entity dialogs are set up (MEM Posting Periods by User-Entity or MEM Posting Periods by Entity), the posting periods by template works as expected. For more information, see Limit the Posting Period .
If one or both of the posting by entity dialogs are set up (MEM Posting Periods by User-Entity or MEM Posting Periods by Entity), the posting periods by template functionality cannot be used and is turned off.
