Alignment by Item Group: Examples
Review the following examples to better understand how the alignment by item group feature works.
The Advanced Recurring Contract Billing Parameters page is set up with the following notable settings:
- Unique schedule type is Customer
- Default support and renewal start date is Beginning of next month
- Align by item group is Yes
The Item Group Setup page is set up with the following settings:

Scenario 1: Prorate and adjust renewal start date
A sales order is created for a renewal item in the Audio. Because Unique schedule type is Customer, when the Support and Renewal Process page is opened:
- the item is automatically attached to the existing billing schedule for the customer.
- Renewal start date is not recalculated because partial periods are allowed.
- Alignment date uses the same date as the first active item on the billing schedule that uses the same item group. The alignment date can be changed if needed.
Scenario 2: No prorate and no adjust renewal start date
A sales order is created for a renewal item in the CarAudio. Because Unique schedule type is Customer, when the Support and Renewal Process page is opened:
- the item is automatically attached to the existing billing schedule for the customer.
- Renewal start date is recalculated because partial periods are not allowed.
- Alignment date is not assigned and it cannot be edited.
Scenario 3: No prorate and adjust renewal start date
A sales order is created for a renewal item in the TV&Video. Because Unique schedule type is Customer, when the Support and Renewal Process page is opened:
- the item is automatically attached to the existing billing schedule for the customer
- Renewal start date is recalculated because partial periods are not allowed.
- Alignment date uses the same date as the first active item on the billing schedule that uses the same item group. The alignment date can be changed if needed.
