Use this page to enter meter reading information. Meter readings are used for reconciling calculations for consumption based charges.
Tip: To edit the meter reading and consumption values for several meters, use the Mass Meter Reading Entry.
Set up the Charge Meter
To set up the charge meter, follow these steps:
- After you add a lease or select to edit a lease from the All Leases View, go to the Charges FastTab, select the charge you want.
- If a meter charge does not exist for the lease, add a meter charge.
Ensure that the Charge type is Consumption. - Select Meter reading, and on the Meter readings page, specify the Meter reading type.
- Specify the Meter rate.
- Select OK.
This value determines how and where you will enter the meter reading values. Ensure you select the correct Meter reading type for your needs. After you select the type, you cannot edit the value.
You can specify the details for the meter charge on the Billing Lines page.
The meter is set up and ready for entering meter reading or consumption values.
Enter Meter Reading
To manually enter meter reading values, follow these steps:
- From the All Leases View, select a lease.
- From the Lease Details, in the Charges FastTab, select the charge you want and select Meter reading.
- On the Meter readings page, you can check that Meter reading type is Reading.
- If needed, specify the Meter rate.
- For the billing period(s) you want, specify the Current Reading value.
- Select Process.
All unprocessed lines for the current and previous billing periods are processed. The Processed check box for the lines are updated to show the lines have been processed. - Select OK to return to the Lease Details.
The Previous reading is automatically entered with the initial reading for the first line or the current reading of the previous billing period. The Consumption is automatically calculated and cannot be edited.
After you enter the meter reading values, review the Billing Lines page to process the lines for the Invoice Creator.
Enter Meter Consumption
To enter meter consumption values, follow these steps:
- From the All Leases View, select a lease.
- In the Charges FastTab, select the charge you want select the charge you want and select Meter reading.
- On the Meter readings page, you can check that the Meter reading type is Consumption.
- If needed, specify the Meter rate.
- For the billing period(s) you want, specify the Consumption value.
- Select Process.
All unprocessed lines for the current and previous billing periods are processed. The Processed check box for the lines are updated to show the lines have been processed. - Select OK to return to the Lease Details.
After you enter the meter consumption values, review the Billing Lines page to process the lines for the Invoice Creator.
Fields
This page contains the following fields:

Meter details | |
Lease number |
Displays the lease number. |
Meter number | Displays the meter number. |
Meter reading type |
Displays the meter reading type. Read-only.
The meter reading type is set up on the Meters tab on the Property Lease Management Parameters page. |
Meter start date |
Displays the start date of the meter for the lease. Overlapping dates with previous reading periods is not allowed. |
Meter end date | Displays the end date of the meter for the lease. |
Frequency |
Displays the billing frequency for lease charges. The options are: Monthly, Weekly, Quarterly, Annually, and One Time |
Initial reading |
Displays the initial reading for the meter for the lease. The initial reading value for a new meter is set up on the Property Lease Management Parameters page. For existing meters, this value is updated with the last billed value for the most previous terminated lease. |
Meter rate |
Specify the charge rate for the meter. This value must be a positive, non-zero value and can be changed as needed. |
Total consumption | Displays the sum total of the Consumption column. |
Meter reading lines | |
Displays all meter reading lines for the meter charge. If an unprocessed line has a consumption value of zero (0) a warning icon appears on the line. |

Start date | Displays the start date of the billing period. |
End date | Displays the end date of the billing period. |
Previous reading |
Displays the previous reading of the meter. Read-only. For the first line, this value is the same as the initial reading. For subsequent lines, the value is the same as the current reading of the preceding line. |
Current reading |
Specify the current reading value of the meter. This value is updated manually or updated by importing meter reading data for all meter charges where the reading type is Reading. The current reading value of a line must be greater than the previous reading value. |
Consumption |
When the meter reading type is Reading, displays the consumed amount for the billing period, and cannot be edited. The consumed amount is calculated as follows: Current reading - Previous reading. When the meter reading type is Consumption, specify the consumed amount for the period. |
Meter rate | Displays the meter rate used for processing the line. Read-only. The meter rate is changed in the header. |
Processed |
Indicates whether the line has been processed. This check box is automatically updated or cleared based on whether the line is processed.
This check box is updated after selecting Process button. It does not indicate whether the line has been included on any invoices. |
User ID | Displays the ID of the user who processed the line. |
Submitted date | Displays the date on which the line is processed. |
Buttons
This page contains the following buttons:

Processes all unprocessed lines (including lines that have a zero (0) consumption amount) for the current and previous billing periods. |
Mark all | Selects all the lines in the Meter reading lines list for processing. |
